E-Cruiting: Using social networking to build your recruiting muscle, not bust your recruiting budget.
E-CRUITING: Using social networking to build your recruiting muscle, not bust your recruiting budget.
Have you ever asked yourself the following questions?
What is social networking and why should I care?
Is it really being used by companies to recruit candidates, and how?
Should I be concerned about legal ramifications?
What the heck do I do with all of this information?
How does my company establish a social networking presence?
What social networking sites, in addition to LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter, should I be using?
Hiring managers and recruiters want to have greater access to pools of candidates without busting their budgets - all while staying compliant and legally responsible. It’s a pretty tall order and until just a few years ago, a very expensive and nearly impossible one. In the last few years, social networking has come on strong. It’s been labeled everything from a colossal waste of time to the company savior. The reality is that it’s somewhere in between. Without fail, though, we’re constantly being asked by our clients if they should be using these tools and, more importantly, how.
E-cruiting is defined by Encyclopedia.com as “the recruiting of staff via the Internet…using specialized sites on the Web.” We’re taking the conversation one step further and focusing on the process of e-cruiting specifically on social networking sites.
In an effort to make sure we weren’t leading our clients down the wrong social networking path, we started to do some research on the topic and what we found was that there were very few comprehensive resources designed to help recruiting and human resources professionals, and small business owners, regardless of the size of their budgets.
"E-cruiting: Using social networking to build your recruiting muscle, not bust your recruiting budget" is a primer intended to start you off on the right foot by answering the questions above, and more. The focus of this book is to give you the "why" and not the "how". Technology, as it has a tendency to do, changes quickly and a lot of what we could put into this book, such as the “how to” stuff, will probably be out of date before this book even hits the presses. Instead, we’re discussing important key concepts that you need to understand and incorporate into your business, no matter the size.

Praise for E-Cruiting
“For a business to have a true online presence these days, it simply isn’t enough to have a static website. E-cruiting demonstrates what is possible with a full online presence. It shows why a complete strategy is required to accomplish your objectives. Ten years ago our company used a shared e-mail address to communicate with customers online. Seven years ago we developed a static website with emails for everybody in the company. Today we use rolling information on the website, e-mail, a blog, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Google, and other sources to improve our presence in the web. The results have been stellar. Complete strategies such as those discussed in E-cruiting have led us to receive a larger pool of candidates for openings, have better communication with our customers, have better marketing with new and potential customers, and improve our rankings in search engines.”

“E-cruiting provides not only practical advice about launching your own social network recruiting program, but it also reminds us that we need to approach it strategically. At Muskingum, we are new to using social networking tools for recruitment. After reading the chapter on student recruiting and having numerous discussions, we decided to enter the social networking world by observing others and beginning with one tool - an option that E-cruiting recommends. This book is an easy read and offers great potential to those considering adopting social networking tools as part of their recruitment strategy.”
